Description

This is a mid-19th century terrace, now occupied by various commercial premises, located on the south side of High Street, Boston Spa. The building is constructed with an ashlar facade of magnesian limestone, topped with a Welsh slate roof. It is three storeys high and comprises nine bays. A basket-arched carriage entrance is found in bay 6, while the ground floor otherwise features flat-roofed shop-front projections. The first floor has projecting sills and flat arches above sashes with glazing bars in bays 1-4 and 9, and 16-pane sashes in bays 5-8. The second floor mirrors these openings with unequally-hung sashes of nine panes in bays 1-4 and 9 and twelve panes in bays 5-8. A fascia board has paired wooden gutter brackets. Ashlar copings are situated between bays 2 and 3, 4 and 5, and at the right end of the building. The roof line drops to the right of bay 5. A rendered ridge stack is located between bays 2 and 3, while sandstone ridge stacks are present between bays 4 and 5, 5 and 6, and 7 and 8. The left return features a round-arched doorway and a round-arched stair window on the first floor. The terrace was originally built as the Victoria Hotel and was known as Victoria Buildings by 1850.
