Description
The Mill Range attached to the west side of Number 21A is a mid to late 19th-century brick building constructed in English bond with a slate roof and gable coping on the left. It stands four storeys high and features nine bays, with slightly segmental brick arches above the windows. There is a noticeable straight join in the brickwork where it connects with the Victoria Works mill range. An 1847 OS map indicates that there was originally a range with a cart entrance, suggesting this may be a rebuild of the original structure on the same site. However, EJ Connell's 1975 thesis claims that the building largely retains its original form from around 1840. A 1902 insurance map shows a 'brick-arched second floor' but no cart entrance, indicating possible alterations when the new entrance block for Victoria Mills was constructed on Atkinson Street around 1865 for Titley and Co. The interior has not been inspected. For further historical context, refer to the Victoria Works range.
