Description

The monument to Sarah Kidney, located in Beckett Street Cemetery, is a memorial dating from around 1895. It is constructed from gritstone ashlar and features a square, three-stepped base with a plinth block. Atop the base stands a miniature square-sectioned tapering industrial chimney, approximately 3 meters high, made of rock-faced stone and topped with a cornice and cap. The plinth and base are inscribed to commemorate Sarah Kidney, who died in 1895 at the age of 59, as well as Thomas Kidney, described as 'the oldest steeplejack in England', who died in 1914 at the age of 82, along with other members of his family.
