Description
North Lodge is a mid-19th century lodge located on the east side of Woodhouse Moor in Leeds. It is built from edge-tooled gritstone ashlar and features a blue slate roof. The lodge is a single storey structure with a basement and attic, designed in the Gothic Revival style and consisting of two bays.
The west front showcases a reeded panelled door set within a four-centred arch, accompanied by a porch supported by octagonal piers and a similar arch. Above this, there is a quatrefoil window in the gable. To the left, a three-light stone mullion window is topped with a dripmould. The left side of the lodge features a canted bay window within a projecting gabled bay, which includes a shield and barge-boards, as well as steps leading down to the basement and a doorway on the left return. There are also two-light windows with four-centred arches to the left. The right return has a small projecting gable, deep eaves, and shaped barge boards. A central chimney is adorned with a group of four octagonal shafts, while a single shaft chimney is located on the rear wing. The southeast end of the building was rebuilt in 1993.
Woodhouse Moor was the first city park, purchased in 1855, and this lodge was likely part of the earlier reservoir complex situated on its southeast side. The interior of the lodge has not been inspected.
