Description
The cemetery wall with a blocked gateway on the north-west side is a section of the wall of the Leeds General Cemetery, now known as St George's Fields. It was built between 1832 and 1834 by John Clark. The wall is made of coursed squared gritstone and features a pedimented coping. It stands approximately 3 meters high and extends from the lodge for about 80 meters to the north corner, then continues along the north-west side for around 30 meters, where the height is reduced. Midway along the north-west side, there is a monolithic gateway that has been blocked; it measures approximately 4 meters wide and 3 meters high, with tapering jamb stones supporting a massive shaped lintel. For further historical details, refer to the Former Cemetery Chapel.
