Description
The grave memorial to Ann Carr was erected in 1841 and is made of fine-grained sandstone. It takes the form of a plain upright grave slab with a shaped top, set on a simple plinth. The long inscription on the slab honors Ann Carr, describing her as the foundress of the sect of female revivalists and a devoted preacher for 25 years. It highlights her strong intellect and ardent spirit, which were dedicated to the glory of God. The inscription notes her efforts in spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ and states that she died on January 18th, 1841, at the age of 57. It concludes with a quote acknowledging her works and labor, and mentions that the tablet was erected in grateful remembrance of her worth and labors by the members of the Female Revivalists Friendly Sick Society, of which she was the president.
