Description
The former stable block, now a house, is located approximately 50 metres east of Arthington Hall. It dates from the early to mid 18th century and has been altered. The building is constructed of coursed squared sandstone with quoins and features a stone slate roof. It has a rectangular plan, is two storeys high, and consists of seven bays arranged symmetrically, with a pedimented three-bay centre that slightly projects forward. The central doorway has a plain surround and a moulded cornice supported by scrolled brackets. The ground floor has 16-pane sash windows with raised sills and gauged heads. The first-floor windows were originally square, with raised sills, plain jambs, and gauged heads, but the outer bays have been altered to match the ground floor with 16-pane sashes. The building also features a bracketed pediment, bracketed eaves, and a hipped roof with two chimneys at the centre of the ridge. A later addition at the left end is not included in this listing.
