Description
No. 2 Old Lane is a house dating from the early to mid-17th century. It is constructed of thin-coursed rubble with roughly dressed quoins, and it has a stone slate roof. The building is two storeys high with a single-storey outshut at the rear and follows a two-cell baffle-entry plan.
The first cell features a doorway with composite jambs and a Tudor-arched lintel that has a stop-chamfered surround, which continues to form spandrels on the lintel. Above the door is a hoodmould. To the right of the door, there is a former three-light double-chamfered mullioned window with a lowered sill, although it is now lacking its mullions. There is also a wider window above that is obscured by render. The second cell has similar windows.
Brick stacks are set in from the gables, with the left stack resting on an original stone base. At the rear, there are two windows to the left of the doorway; one was formerly a two-light window with a chamfered lintel, while the other retains a 16-pane sash window. The doorway here has a plain wooden surround. Between the cells, there is a later doorway with monolithic jambs that has been blocked. The right-hand return features a small chamfered light on the ground floor, while the left-hand return is unrendered, revealing the stone coursing and quoins.
