Description

This listing describes three memorials for the Walsh family, located approximately 10 meters southwest of the tower of the Church of St Mark. These tombs date from the early to mid-19th century and are made of stone, with two of them featuring low wrought-iron railings.

The western tomb, which was previously listed on its own, has a low chamfered curb and an enclosing chest tomb with a moulded base. It features inscribed side panels made of polished stone, corner pilasters with raised motifs of inverted torches and urns, a floral-decorated frieze, a cornice, and a hipped top. The inscriptions on this tomb commemorate Hannah, the wife of John Walsh, a stone merchant from Leeds, who lived from 1774 to 1827; John Walsh himself, who lived from 1772 to 1849; their daughter Jane, who lived from 1814 to 1825; Mary, who lived from 1801 to 1843; and four others who died in infancy.

The two tombs to the east have stone plinths and low railings decorated with circle and fleur-de-lis motifs. The polished stone tombs have cambered inscribed tops. The left tomb commemorates Charlotte, the daughter of William and Ann Walsh, who died in 1857, along with her family. The right tomb commemorates Mary Elizabeth, the wife of John Walsh, who died in 1880, along with her family. The two eastern tombs are newly listed.
