Description
This is a road bridge over the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, built between 1770 and 1777, with the parapet likely rebuilt around 1816. The bridge is constructed of ashlar stone and features a single segmental arch with vermiculated rustication on the voussoirs and buttresses. The parapet, which sits above a band at road level, has incised plain panels. At the south end of the west parapet, the walling connects to the Canal Company Office; the parapets were probably constructed when the office was completed, following the canal's connection to Liverpool in 1816.
