Description
The garden wall to the north and west and the summerhouse to the west of Arncliffe were built in 1893 by Francis Bedford. Constructed from red brick with stone details, the summerhouse features a felted roof. The walls are approximately 1 meter high and extend about 70 meters in length. There is a curved terrace wall with stone seating and ramped coping leading to garden steps from the southwest corner of the house to a small, square-plan, single-storey summerhouse. The walling steps descend on the west side of the drive and return eastwards in front of the north side of the house, where it has an arcade that may have been added later. The summerhouse includes brick quoins and a panelled south door with a circular glazed top panel, set in a moulded brick Gibbs-style surround with a pediment above the eaves line. It features Venetian windows on the north and east sides, which contain original stained glass with roundels depicting painted figures and foliage, signed by 'GF Malins'. The summerhouse has an ogee roof, with the finial stored inside. The interior is lined with wooden seats.
