Description
Cross Bank Methodist Sunday School is a Methodist Sunday School built in 1882. It is constructed of dressed stone and features a hipped slate roof. The building has two storeys and a gable frontage that measures seven bays wide by five bays deep.
The central three bays project slightly and are topped with an open pediment that has a vase acroterion. On the first floor, there are pilasters with foliated capitals. The main entrance is a round arched doorway with a double panelled door and fanlight, which is topped by a segmental open pediment supported by large console brackets. This pediment bears the inscription "WESLEYAN SUNDAY SCHOOL ENLARGED 1882".
To the left and right of the entrance are round arched windows that have a foliated impost band. The first-floor windows in the central projection form a triple group, featuring red granite colonnettes with annulets and foliated capitals that support stilted round arched heads. The central window is taller and breaks into the open pediment above. Each side arch has a carved bird in the tympanum, while the centre arch contains a round foliated panel with a small rectangular panel below that has anthemion decoration. The two side windows have aprons with tiled panels.
The windows in the flanking bays and side elevations are also round arched and have an impost band. The first-floor windows are adorned with hood moulds and alternately coloured voussoirs.
