Description
This building, located to the rear and north-east of No 14 on Church Street in Honley, is a former structure that may have served as two dwellings or as one dwelling with a workshop, storage, or agricultural use. It dates from the early 18th century and is constructed from deeply coursed rubble with quoins and a plinth. The stone slate roof features gable copings supported by carved kneelers and has one ashlar stack with a moulded string.
The building is two storeys high and has a large drip mould at the eaves and below the first-floor windows. It consists of two bays with two central doors; the door on the right has a moulded surround, while the door on the left has chamfered reveals. Both doors are topped with massive lintels and flanked by quoins. The ground floor includes three 4-light double chamfered stone mullioned windows and one 2-light window, all appearing to be original. Inside, the roof timbers seem to be original as well, featuring a large king-post truss with struts and braces, trenched purlins, and a ridge piece that is trenched into the extended king-post, with pegged joints. The building is currently unused.
