Description
27 Church Street is a large house that is part of a row, built in the late 18th century. It is constructed of hammer-dressed stone with ashlar dressings and features raised ashlar quoins. The gable copings extend onto a blocking course above a deep moulded eaves cornice, and there is a small central ashlar stack. The house has two storeys and the north-east elevation includes an ashlar string course between the floors. It has five bays, with a central door that has a rectangular fanlight featuring glazing bars, a moulded surround, a frieze, and a cornice supported by small consoles. To the left of the door are two single-light sashes that have been rebuilt, while to the right there are two sashes, one of which may have been altered from a doorway back to a window. The first floor has five sashes. The rear elevation is of no special interest.
