Description

The font located in the yard of the Church of St Mary the Virgin is a stone structure that originates from an earlier chapel on the site, likely dating to the early 18th century. It features an octagonal bowl, pedestal, and base. The bowl is inscribed with the initials Mr I.H. 1714 I.B., R.B., I.M., which represent the Incumbent and three Constables or Churchwardens. This information is referenced in "The History of Honley" by M A Jagger, published in 1914.
