Description

Thorne’s Farmhouse, along with an adjoining cottage, dates from the early or mid-18th century, with the cottage being added in the late 18th or early 19th century. The farmhouse is constructed of deeply coursed hammer-dressed stone, while the cottage is of coursed rubble. Both have quoins, and stone slate roofs, likely replaced in the 19th century and turned, with paired, moulded stone brackets supporting the gutter. The farmhouse originally had gable stacks, and the cottage a single gable stack, all of which are now rendered.

The farmhouse is two storeys high. The central doorway is from the 19th century. To the left of the entrance is a four-light double-chamfered window, from which two mullions have been removed. To the right is a four-light window dating from the late 18th or early 19th century, with one light now blocked. The first floor has three three-light double-chamfered windows. The cottage to the right has an entrance on its left side and one three-light window on the right. Two two-light windows are present on the first floor. An outshut extends to the rear, incorporating later openings.
