Description

This is a large barn, likely dating to the 17th century or earlier, located at Thorne's Farm. The original structure features timber framing, with later 18th-century coursed stone cladding and 20th-century brickwork. It has a stone slate roof. There are outshuts on either side of a square-headed cart entrance on the south side, with a blocked entrance on the opposite side. Recent brickwork is present on the right side. An addition at a 90-degree angle to the rear is not part of this listing.

The interior comprises five bays with an aisle and outshuts on the south side. Four trusses are supported by an arcade plate to the south and a wall plate to the north. The north posts of the two eastern trusses may be incorporated into the walling or are missing. These trusses vary in construction and a further intermediate truss has been added, supported by the wall on its north end and the arcade plate on its south end. The trusses are generally king-post type with struts and braces, except for one which has only struts and arched braces. The most easterly truss has an aisle-tie, but no other ties or housings for them are visible. The tie-beam of the west truss has housings on its underside for studs.
