Description
The bandstand in Greenhead Park, built in 1884 by Mr. Joseph Brearley, is a notable structure that was restored around 1994. It is constructed from ashlar and rock-faced stone, featuring ashlar dressings and timber, topped with Welsh slate roofs. The bandstand has a large octofoil base with a chamfered plinth and a low stone balustrade that includes a curved handrail, connecting two square stone piers that are adorned with iron urns.
The octagonal battered rock-faced plinth is accessed by five stone steps and has ashlar coping. It supports the octagonal bandstand, which is held up by eight wooden columns that support an octagonal slate roof, crowned by a cupola with an iron weather vane. The columns are designed in a Japanese style, featuring openwork lattice and matching brackets. The three southwest sides of the bandstand include glazing bar screens above low wooden panel sides.
