Description

The Pollard family tomb, located approximately 37 metres north-north-west of the sanctuary of the Church of St Peter, is a chest tomb dating from around 1806. It is constructed from dressed stone and features a base with fielded panels—two on each side and one on each end—flanked by fluted pilasters. The top slab has a corniced edge and a border adorned with finely-carved relief foliage, a cherub at the top, and a winged skull at the base. The inscription commemorates Mary Pollard, who died in 1756, and Naylor Pollard, who died in 1806, with the word "Here" at the top flanked by crossed bones and an hourglass. Later inscriptions also honor their son William Pollard, who died in 1809, and John Pollard, who died in 1820.
