Description
This large barn, dating from the late 18th century, is located approximately 20 metres southeast of Upper Quick Stavers Farmhouse in Sowerby Bridge. It is constructed of coursed squared stone and features a stone slate roof. The barn consists of three bays, with a central round-arched cart entry that has skewbacks, and a window above it with tie-stones to the jambs.
On the left end, there is a doorway with an adjacent window on the right, both framed by large stone blocks and tie-stones. The right end has a blocked doorway that has been converted into a window, which is set beneath a reused Tudor-arched lintel with sunk spandrels. To the left of this, there is another window with a reused double-chamfered lintel.
At the rear, there is a blocked threshing door with a chamfered-headed narrow light above it, along with a chamfered window on the right and another window on the left. A straight joint is visible between the right-hand bay and the rest of the barn. The right return features a round-arched owl-hole in the gable.
Inside, the barn contains two 19th-century softwood queen-post trusses with angle struts. A garage was added to the right side around 1980, but this is not considered of special interest.
