Description
The stables and barn located to the rear of Slead Hall date back to 1721. Constructed from hammer-dressed stone, the building features a corrugated iron roof. It has a single aisle design with quoins and a coped gable that includes kneelers and finials. The unaisled side showcases a tall segmental arched carriage entry with a drop keystone, which is dated on the skewback and now serves as a window. On the aisle side, there is a doorway with an altered head and composite jambs. The structure consists of three bays. Attached at a right angle is a stable block built in the late 19th century, which is two storeys high. This block has a large rectangular pitching hole set under a gablet, flanked by pointed arched windows, one of which has three lights and forms a columbarium. Other features include sash windows with plain stone surrounds and a large 20th-century garage doorway. A stack rises to the ridge. Nearby, there is a mounting block that contains an inscribed tablet reading '1718 MGE'.
