Description

Abbott's Ladies Home is a pair of almshouses built around 1870 by F. Swindon-Barber. The structure is made of coursed rubble with ashlar dressings and features slate roofs with ashlar coped gables topped with finials. It has two tall ridge stacks, a chamfered plinth, and a first-floor band. The building is two storeys high with four windows. The two central gables slightly project and contain two 4-light chamfered cross mullion windows, with two 3-light chamfered mullion windows above, all featuring wooden transoms and ashlar hoods, and glazing bar casements. On either side of the central gables are single doorways with moulded ashlar bow-headed doorways that have part glazed 6-panel doors, along with single narrow windows beyond. Above, there are single lancet windows with moulded heads.
