Description
Row of 38 shops with offices over on Cavendish Street in Keighley, built in phases between 1899 and 1907 as a speculative development. The street was widened to create a broad thoroughfare from the Railway Station of 1882.
The buildings are constructed in coursed rubble and ashlar with ashlar dressings, featuring slate roofs with 35 stacks, some truncated. The row is predominantly three storeys with attics.
Nos 4 to 10 are in coursed rubble with ashlar dressings, comprising a 4-bay west front with a single-bay chamfered corner and a 3-bay gabled south front. They feature plaster strips with moulded bands at first and second floor levels and moulded eaves, plus a first-floor moulded impost band. No 4 has an ashlar Doric column shop front with 20th-century windows and a corner doorway with diamond glazing overlight. Above this are a round-headed 2-light window on the west and a narrower similar window to the corner, both with keystones.
