Description
This is a barn located 100 metres east of Low Holden, near the Keighley Golf Club House. It dates back to the early 17th century, with an additional bay added around 1768. The barn is constructed from hammer-dressed stone and features a stone slate roof. It has six bays in total.
The east front of the barn showcases quoins and a central cart-entry that is sheltered by a projecting porch under a cat-slide roof. To the left of the porch, there is an aisle that was likely added in the mid-18th century, which includes a doorway with tie-stone jambs set within the re-entrant angle. To the right of the porch, there are two rectangular ventilators and a doorway with composite jambs and a chamfered surround. The quoins also indicate the division with the added bay on the right, which has a flight of ten steps leading to a first-floor doorway with chamfered jambs, as well as another cart-entry featuring a monolithic lintel inscribed with the letter "B". The gables are coped and have kneelers inscribed "I B 1.7.6.8".
At the rear, there is a tall cart-entry with chamfered composite jambs and a wooden lintel that is protected by a row of projecting slates. Doorways with composite jambs and deep lintels with chamfered surrounds are located at either end, with triangular ventilators set between them. The added bay on the left has small windows on the first floor.
Inside, two bays retain original Type 1 king-post trusses with tall king-posts that do not have struts. Three additional trusses have renewed fish-bone king-posts but keep the original tie-beams, likely from when the barn was extended around 1768. The rear cart-entry features wooden mortices for a har-hung door.
