Description

West Riddlesden Hall is a historic house dated 'TL 1687' with 19th-century alterations and additions, built for Thomas Leach. The structure is made of coursed dressed stone and features a stone slate roof. It has two storeys with an attic and a south front that consists of three gabled bays. The building has a chamfered plinth and a central doorway with a torus-moulded architrave on plinth blocks. To the left and right of the doorway, there are large 8-light double-chamfered mullioned and transomed windows, with a cross-window above the door. A moulded band runs over the windows, with terminals dropped on either side of the ground-floor windows. Each gable has an oculus with a hollow-moulded surround and lead cames, and the gables are topped with cyma-reversa ashlar coping and ball finials. A corniced ridge stack is also present.

The entrance front, facing west, has four bays and features a chamfered plinth. The double-chamfered mullion windows include a 2-light window with a hoodmould in the first bay, which may be from the 19th century. The second bay has a 19th-century, two-storey, flat-roofed porch with a chamfered plinth, a studded double-door in a moulded ogee-headed surround, and a hoodmoulded, string, traceried round window above. The third bay contains an 8-light window with a king mullion and glazing bars, along with a string course and 4-light windows above. The fourth bay is gabled and features a 19th-century two-storey canted bay in the style of the porch, with 2-light windows on the ground floor that include transoms, strings, and a parapet. The gable has shaped kneelers, moulded ashlar coping, ball finials, and corniced stacks, with additional stacks along the ridge. The north and east fronts also have good double-chamfered windows, some retaining lead cames.

Inside, the hall is oak-panelled and features a dated beam and an open-string staircase with turned balusters.
