Description
Rand's Almshouses, built in 1876, is a single-storey range of almshouses featuring two-storey wings. The building showcases Gothic and Jacobean detailing, constructed from sandstone "brick" with ashlar dressings. The ground floor of the wings has splayed corners adorned with shield panels, and there is moulded corbelling at the first floors topped with coped finialed gables. The ground floor windows are lobed pointed twin lights, while the first floor windows are set beneath blind pointed arches on carved stops. The single-storey range includes mullioned windows, and there are coupled porches at the center featuring an applied pointed arch. Above the porches is a stepped, finialed gable that contains an inscription and the date of construction.
