Description

Nos. 9-14 on St James' Row are three houses that have been converted into offices. They were built in the early 19th century, with some alterations made in the mid-19th century and late 20th century. The buildings are constructed of brick with ashlar dressings and feature slate roofs with four gable stacks. Each house has a plinth, string courses, and bracketed eaves, with the left house having dentilled eaves.

Each house is three storeys tall and has three windows across the front. The windows are topped with brick flat arches. The left house features three 12-pane sash windows and three smaller plain sashes above. Below, there are two plain sashes and a doorcase with panelled pilasters and scroll brackets supporting a small cornice. The entrance has a fielded six-panel door with a fanlight and a 19th-century lamp bracket. To the right of the door, there are two plain sashes.

The central house has three plain sashes on each floor, with the upper ones being smaller and the ground floor windows irregularly spaced. To the left, there is a plain pilastered doorcase with a cornice and a nine-panel door. To the right, there is a pedimented doorcase with a moulded six-panel door and fanlight.

The right house also has three plain sashes and three smaller plain sashes above. Below, there is a central segment-headed deeply recessed doorcase with a panelled surround and small cornice, featuring a six-panel door and overlight. To the left, there are two segment-headed plain sashes, and to the right, there is a paired plain sash. The interior has not been inspected.
