Description

Nos. 105-125 on Devonshire Street in Sheffield are a row of ten houses, now serving as both residences and shops. They were built around 1840 and have undergone alterations in the late 19th century and both early and late 20th century. The buildings are constructed of colourwashed brick with stucco dressings and feature hipped slate roofs, along with two rendered side walls and a single ridge stack.

The structure has a plinth and moulded wooden eaves, with a rounded corner on the left side. It stands three storeys high and has an eleven-window range. Most windows are plain sashes with moulded surrounds. The central block, which is slightly higher and projects forward, has three windows and is distinguished by panelled angle pilasters, as well as intermediate and main cornices. The central window features a pediment and is flanked by single plain sashes, with three smaller windows above, the central one having a moulded surround.

The central entrance is a projecting doorcase with a cornice and a cast-iron crest, flanked by single-pane shop windows that have pilastered surrounds, cornices, and toplights. On either side of the central block are lower sections with four-window ranges that have altered early 20th-century pilastered wooden shopfronts, while the outer shopfronts are from the late 20th century.

The left corner includes a 12-pane sash window with a 6-pane sash above it, alongside a 20th-century corner doorway. The left return features a first-floor band and three upper-floor windows, with the rightmost ones blocked. The central doorcase here is flanked to the left by a 12-pane sash window and to the right by a 20th-century shop window. The interior has not been inspected.
