Description
This building, now garage workshops, was originally a horse tram depot and stables constructed in 1878 for the Sheffield Tramways Company. It is located on the south west side of Albert Road. The building is constructed of red brick with blue and yellow brick and ashlar dressings, and has slate and corrugated asbestos roofs. The main tram shed, which occupies the right side of the building, features a shouldered coped gable with a segmental pointed tram entrance. Above the entrance are plaques that read "Sheffield Tramways Company". Segmental pointed blank windows flank the gable. To the left of the main shed is a single-story office with two sash windows and flanking doors; the left door has an overlight, and the right door has been renewed. Beyond the office are four windowless blocks, stepped to follow the slope of the land. The interior contains a steel trussed roof supported by internal brick buttresses. The building has undergone alterations in the mid and late 20th century.
