Description
The Lodge to Oakbrook, now a house, was built around 1850 for Mark Firth. It features rock-faced stone with ashlar and granite dressings, topped with hipped slate roofs and a capped central ridge stack. The building has a plinth, sill band, eaves band, and a moulded wooden gutter with brackets. A large central canted bay window includes a central 2-light plain sash with round arches and a central granite column, flanked by single round-arched sashes. To the right, there is a round-arched doorway with an impost and hoodmould, featuring a fielded 6-panel door and a fanlight. The left return has a 2-light plain sash with round arches and a granite column. The interior has not been inspected. This lodge served as an ancillary building to Oakbrook, the residence of Mark Firth, a significant steel manufacturer and philanthropist in Sheffield during the mid to late 19th century.
