Description
Brook Hall is an early 19th-century house built for coalmaster Joseph Ward. It is constructed from coursed squared stone with ashlar dressings, and has a hipped slate roof with two coped stone stacks to the side and rear walls. The house is two storeys high, with a three-window front. It has a double-range plan. The windows are 16-pane sashes. The central bay slightly projects and has a coped gable containing a coat of arms above a single window. Flanking windows are set within projecting stone surrounds. A stone doorcase features engaged Doric piers and an open pediment, leading to a half-glazed 20th-century door with a fanlight above. The rear elevation includes a round-headed stair window and a hipped two-storey rear wing. The interior has not been inspected. A stone garden wall, to the right of the house, is constructed from coursed squared stone and features ramped gabled coping. A doorway is set into the wall with a wrought-iron gate.
