Description
The railway bridge beneath the track to Low Laithes Farm was built around 1849 for the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway, designed by engineer John Fowler. It is constructed from coursed, squared, rock-faced limestone with a brick soffit. This single-span bridge carries the track to Low Laithes Farm over the railway. The segmental arch rises from skew-backed springing stones, which form a band across the intrados, with voussoirs aligned with narrow courses in the spandrels. The abutment walls are battered, and a continuous band above the arch connects the projecting end piers. The coped parapet features deeply-coursed stone.
