Description
The churchyard railings, plinth wall, and gates for the Church of the Holy Trinity were likely built around 1877 by J. L. Pearson for the Fitzwilliam family of Wentworth Woodhouse. The structure features rubble sandstone walling with ashlar copings, wrought-iron railings, and cast-iron gate piers. It surrounds the churchyard, with a short break at the north-west corner. There is a double gate opposite the east end of the church, aligned with an avenue leading from Wentworth Woodhouse. Another double gate is located opposite the north porch, with a single gate to the left (across from the vestry) and a wider gate to the right, opposite the burial ground. An outer ditch is present in front of the low railings on the north and east sides of the church, while elsewhere the ditch is absent, and the railings rise to about 1 metre in height. The copings are chamfered, and the wrought-iron railings feature barbed finials, matching the gates. The tapered octagonal gate piers have shaped tops. This structure is included for its group value.
