Description

The double barn at Hall Farm, now the premises of Yorkshire Bottle Company Ltd, dates from around 1800 and has been altered over time. It is constructed of red brick in English garden wall bond and features a sheet asbestos roof. The barn is two storeys high and consists of 12 bays, with dovecotes located in the south-facing gables at each end.

On the south side, which is enclosed within a 20th-century warehouse, there are projecting gabled end bays. Between these bays, three round-arched, recessed panels are present. The outer recesses contain segmentally-arched waggon entrances, while the central recess has a door below a lozenge-shaped vent. The end gables, visible from outside the warehouse, feature dentilled brick pediments that enclose round-arched recesses with brick ledges and pigeon holes, topped with ashlar gable copings.

The rear of the barn has opposed waggon entrances with ashlar impost blocks and 20th-century doors and shutters beneath round-arched panels. Between the doors, there are two circular pitching holes, with the ground-floor one bricked up flush. Similar blocked pitching holes are found on each side, and there is a slatted casement beneath a segmental brick arch on the far left. This barn was formerly part of Home Farm, serving Bawtry Hall. The 20th-century additions are not considered of special interest.
