Description
Bolton Mill Bridge is an 18th-century bridge that has been bypassed and was widened in 1800. It is constructed from herringbone-tooled ashlar sandstone and features a single span. The bridge has a rusticated segmental arch with a projecting keystone and a band-rusticated soffit that covers half of the bridge's width. The flanking piers are designed as cutwaters with angled tops. The splayed abutment walls end in projecting square piers, all connected by a cambered band that is inscribed above the arch with the words 'Widthend by the Wapontake / 1800'. The rounded parapet copings complete the structure. On the rear side, there is a plain segmental arch flanked by square piers and a band.
