Description
The cowhouse at Falthwaite Grange Farm, located approximately 15 metres north of the farmhouse, dates from the 16th or early 17th century, with later walling. It features internal timber framing, rubble sandstone construction, and a stone slate roof. The building is single-storey and consists of three bays.
On the farmyard side, the walling from the 19th to 20th century includes a boarded door to the left of centre, flanked by part-slatted casements, and another doorway on the right, all with plain stone lintels. The rear walling shows an older character. The left return displays timber framing with later brick infill visible in the gable. The right return has external stone steps leading to a boarded door, a window on the left, and a pigeon hole in the asymmetrical gable.
Inside, there are six wall posts with braces supporting the wall plate in the front wall. The principal-rafter trusses feature diagonal braces and double purlins, while the timberwork above the tie beams is of a later date. An adjoining farm building at the left end is not of special interest.
