Description
The barn at Falthwaite Grange Farm, located approximately 30 metres to the west of the farmhouse, is a Grade II listed structure likely dating from the 16th century, with later walling. It features a timber-framed construction with rubble sandstone and brick infill, topped by a tarred slate roof. This tall single-storey building consists of five bays.
On the roadside elevation, the wall posts are visible, supported by rubble stonework beneath a midrail. The central waggon entrance has boarded doors beneath a higher rail, while the upper walling includes curved braces and some studs set in 19th to 20th-century brickwork. Each end bay has a boarded hatch.
On the farmyard side, there is a full-height waggon entrance flanked by wall posts, with side bays covered by adjoining farm buildings of later date, which are not of special interest. Inside, some wall posts have been cut off and underbuilt, but the original wall plate remains. The barn features king-post trusses, except for those flanking the central bay, which are collared, along with double purlins and a square-set ridge. The adjoining farm buildings at each end are not of special interest.
