Description
This footbridge, likely built around 1782 for Sir Thomas Wentworth, is located approximately 200 metres southeast of Cascade Bridge in Bretton Park. Constructed from gritstone ashlar, it features a single-span round-arched design that crosses an inlet on the south side of Lower Lake. The voussoirs, or arch stones, are longer towards the center of the arch to create an optical illusion of perfect symmetry. The bridge has a flat walkway and a single-course parapet, which may have been lowered over time. The sides of the bridge curve to form a narrower center.
