Description
No. 3 Blossom Street is a National School built in 1853, now serving as a Citizens' Advice Bureau. The building features brick construction with stone dressings and a slate roof, designed in the Elizabethan style.
The exterior comprises one and two storeys, showcasing two forward-facing gables. These gables are topped with saddlebacked copings, while the coping of the slightly recessed central bay steps upwards. The windows are double chamfered with mullions and are divided into small rectangular panes. A single-storey projection is located in front of the left-hand gable, featuring a coping that rises in the centre above a four-light window with a transom. The right-hand return wall of this projection has a tall 20th-century opening that includes a lower doorway.
Above the main gable, there is a small chamfered opening at the apex and a two-light mullioned window. A continuous string course runs above both gable windows. The central bay has a recess, likely intended for a plaque, beneath its coping, and on the ground floor, below a second string course, it features a cross window with a mullion and transom. The upper part of the right-hand gable mirrors the left, but the window below the two upper lights widens to four lights, with a mid-20th-century doorway cutting through the lower part of the window. A chimney is visible between the two gables towards the rear of the building.
The interior has not been inspected. This building is included for its group value with the City Walls and other structures on Blossom Street.
