Description
No. 116 Micklegate is a shop and flat built in the late 19th century. It features grey-cream brick with orange brick quoins, window arches, and surrounds. The building has a timber eaves band and a projecting moulded cornice supported by paired brackets, topped with a hipped pantile roof at the left end and brick stacks.
The exterior has a three-storey, two-window front. The shopfront includes sunk panelled pilasters, a plain fascia, and a moulded cornice between grooved brackets. At the left end, there is an upstairs access door with six panels beneath a semicircular overlight. To the right, a three-quarter glazed and panelled door is situated between half-canted plate glass windows framed in colonnettes with moulded imposts and bases. A four-light canted bay window with a projecting dentilled cornice is located to the left on the first floor. All windows are two-light cross windows with timber mullions. The interior has not been inspected. This building is included for its group value as an important element of this historic street.
