Description
54 Goodramgate is a house that has been converted into a shop. It dates from the early 18th century, with alterations and an extension made in the 19th century, and further changes to the shopfront in the 20th century. The front is made of painted brick, while the rear is rendered. The roof is covered with pantiles and features a brick stack at the front, with a hipped slate roof on the extension.
The exterior has a three-storey, three-window front. The shopfront includes a recessed door situated between plate glass windows. On the right side, there is a segment-arched carriageway that is closed off by panelled double doors. The first-floor windows are four-pane sashes with segmental brick arches, while the second-floor windows are squat six-pane sashes with flat arches; all windows have painted sills. There is an eaves frieze along the top.
At the rear, the building has a three-storey gable wall. There is an altered doorway on the ground floor, and the first and second floors feature 16-pane sash windows with segmental brick arches.
The interior has only been partially inspected. It includes a close string staircase leading from the first to the second floor. The lower flight has a Chinese Chippendale balustrade, while the upper flight features stick balusters and a moulded, ramped handrail.
