Description

This is a shop and flats, dating from around 1840, with later alterations from the 19th and 20th centuries. The front is built of pink mottled brick in a Flemish bond pattern, while the rear uses pink and red mottled brick in an English garden-wall bond. Painted stone and timber are used for the decorative elements. It has a moulded eaves cornice with heavy, grooved brackets supporting a slate roof, and a brick stack on the left end.

The building is three storeys and has an attic, with a two-window front. It features a shopfront with pilasters and a dentil cornice resting on scrolled brackets, complete with blind boxes and fittings. The first-floor windows are four-pane sashes. The second-floor windows have been altered to 20th-century windows with coloured glass upper lights. The attic windows are squat six-pane sashes. All first and second-floor windows are arched. A moulded cornice above the shopfront forms the sill band for the first-floor windows, and the second-floor windows have painted stone sills. There is a moulded band below the attic windows.

Inside, there is an open-string cantilevered staircase positioned around an oval well, with timber steps, slender cast-iron balusters, and a moulded, swept-up mahogany handrail. A late 19th-century fireplace and grate, with a moulded cornice shelf on shaped brackets, is found in a rear room.
