Description
Maw's Mill is a windmill tower built around 1820, constructed from tarred red brick. It features a tapered round shape and stands four storeys tall, with a plinth at the base. The ground floor has a blocked door on the south side, a partly blocked door on the north side, and damaged windows on the east and west sides. There are four windows on both the first and second floors, and a pair of windows on the north and south sides of the top floor. All openings have segmental arches, some of which are damaged, and some windows have sandstone sills. A fragmentary cornice is present at the top.
Inside, there are two damaged fireplaces on the ground floor, with flues that pass through the wall and emerge as small square vents at the second-floor level. Surviving internal features include beams for three floors and a dust-floor, a central wooden shaft, two sets of French stones, and a grey bedstone from a third set located on the second floor. The floorboards and roof are missing. The mill went out of use around 1915 and was derelict at the time of the last survey.
