Description
The orangery located approximately 50 metres east of Elsham Hall is a Grade II listed structure. It features a rainwater head inscribed with "WT," likely representing the Thompson family, and has a roof dating from the 20th century, although it originally dates back to 1761. The front is constructed of limestone ashlar, while the sides and rear are made of red brick, with an asbestos roof.
This orangery is designed in a classical style and has a rectangular shape. It includes a flight of five stone steps leading to a central entrance. The building is single-storey with three bays, where the central bay is slightly projected and topped with a pediment. It has a plinth and rusticated quoins. The bays are separated by attached Doric columns that support a full entablature featuring a modillioned cornice and a blocking course.
There are three full-height round-headed arches in rusticated surrounds, which contain windows with wooden mullions and glazing bars, as well as a glazed door in the middle bay. To the right, there is the inscribed rainwater head, while the left and right returns feature tripartite sashes with glazing bars. The roof is single-pitched.
