Description
This is a house located approximately 150 metres south of the Church of Saint Bartholomew, dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed of brown brick and features a pantile roof. The layout consists of two rooms with a central entrance and a central staircase. The building is a single storey with an attic and has two windows. The entrance includes a boarded door, which is flanked by a 12-pane sliding sash window on the left and a 20th-century two-light casement window on the right, all set beneath painted segmental arches. There is a worn datestone on the left corner inscribed with "1790" or "1796". The house has stepped eaves and tumbled-in brick on the raised right gable, with an end stack on the left. There are single attic windows in the gables, featuring a 12-pane sliding sash on the right and a 4-pane sliding sash on the left. This house is a good example of an 18th-century freeholder's cottage and, along with a pair of cottages to the south, is considered one of the best surviving examples in the Axholme area.
