Description

The Vicarage Gate Cottage is a late 18th-century house located on the south side of Vicarage Lane, Redbourne. It was renovated in 1978. The house is constructed of coursed squared limestone with brick stacks and a pantile roof. It follows a 2-room central entrance-hall plan, with a continuous outshut to the rear. The house is two storeys high and has a symmetrical three-bay facade. The ground floor has a six-panelled door, the top two panels glazed, set beneath a flat arch, flanked by two-light sliding sash windows with glazing bars, also beneath flat arches. The first floor is similarly treated, with sliding sash windows beneath keyed flat arches. A corbelled eaves course runs along the top. The gables are stone-coped with shaped kneelers, and there are end stacks. A garden wall to the right, of no special interest, includes a datestone inscribed “1978,” reflecting the renovations carried out then.
