Description
This is a late 18th-century dovecote and stable range located immediately northwest of the Manor House. The building is constructed of red brick with pantile roofs. It has a rectangular footprint, with a square dovecote at the west end.
The two-story dovecote has a plinth. The west side features a lower-floor window with glazing bars, a blue brick sill, and a segmental ovolo-moulded brick hoodmould. Above this is a semi-circular opening with a similar hood and a single row of dove-holes between sandstone ledges. The south side has a blind segmental-arched opening with a stone sill. The north side has a central board door beneath a lintel, with a 2-fold door inserted to the left. A pyramidal roof tops the dovecote, and a square-section, partially glazed wooden turret with a pyramidal roof and weather vane sits atop it.
The stable range is single-storied and faces the Manor House to the south. The right side has a gig-house with double board doors, flanked by two stable doors with tall overlights of glazing bars beneath lintels. Further to the left are two 9-pane windows, each beneath a segmental arch. To the left of these is a blocked segmental-arched window with a moulded brick hood, and a board door connecting to the dovecote. The eaves are stepped. The north side, which faces a farmyard, has a pair of board doors with tall, plain overlights, a similar third doorway with an inserted glazed panel, a segmental-headed window with glazing bars, and a plate-glass window with a lintel at eaves level.
Inside the dovecote, the first floor has tiers of brick nesting boxes, while the turret has an elaborate internal timber structure. The interior of the stable range was not inspected.
