Description
The cross base located approximately 8 metres south of the Church of St Andrew is a medieval structure that has been reset on an 18th to 19th century base. It is made of limestone ashlar resting on a brick base. The upper stone measures about 0.65 metre square and is 0.50 metre deep, while the lower stone is approximately 0.30 metre deep and sits on a brick base that consists of 2 to 3 courses. The upper stone features a base for a square shaft within a lead-jointed socket that is broken flush with the top. Additionally, the centre of the upper stone contains small sockets that were used for a former sundial. The overall height of the cross base is approximately 1.1 metres.
