Description
Gravestone located approximately 0.5 metres from the south-west corner of the nave of the Church of St Peter and St Paul. This gravestone dates from 1100 to 1140 and is made of ironstone. It features a coffin-shaped slab with a raised pattern, including a cross in the oval head and a "V" foot. The stone is much worn and represents a local imitation of the early 12th century Barnack style. For further reference, see L A S Butler's work, "Minor Medieval Monumental Sculpture in The East Midlands," published in the Archaeological Journal, volume 121, 1964, pages 120-123.
