Description

Eight houses, one now a shop, were built in the late 18th century, with alterations in the early 19th century and restoration in the late 20th. Prince Street was planned by the architect Joseph Page around 1771, and he likely designed these houses. The buildings are of brick construction, with six frontages stuccoed, and have brick and stucco dressings and pantile roofs with coped gables and eight gable stacks, six of which are rendered. They feature a plinth, wooden gutter, and brackets. A molded cornice is present at ground-floor level on Nos. 3 and 6-9. The buildings are three storeys high with a 14-window range arranged 2:1:2:1:2:2:2:2. The design follows a curved plan that mirrors the street line. First-floor windows are mostly 12-pane sashes. No. 8 incorporates a shallow corniced wooden oriel window. No. 11 has segment-headed windows. Second-floor windows are mainly 9-pane sashes, with those at Nos. 3 and 11 being smaller and segment-headed; Nos. 7 and 8 have 12-pane sashes. The ground floors, all stuccoed except for No. 11, are characterized by two 12-pane sashes flanked to the right by a pilastered doorcase with a cornice on scroll brackets and a fielded 6-panel door with an overlight.
